Canada Oil Question

Hey guys, i just got a 1995 Corolla to use for winter driving. It has 278000km on it. I was wondering what kind of engine oil i should use. It does seem to drink about 1L for 1200km when i don't drive it nicely.
It also feels a bit sluggish in second gear. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

If you were using conventional oil before, then stick with that.

I would recommend Castrol GTX high mileage. 5W30 or 10W30. Top up as needed.

I hate this question.

And since you live in Canada, my answer is stick with a thinner oil. The recommended 5W20 is perfect for your car IMO. But I do agree with a "high mileage" oil as Phat said

High mileage oils as stated and you may want to try a product called made by lucas. It slowed down the oil consumption drastically on my first corolla.

5w30 in the winter (it will drink it quick though) and 10w30, 10w40, 15w40 or even 20w50 in the summer. 15w40 and 20w50 will not burn as easy as the thinner oils.

Depending on how far north in la belle province you're located, I would probably do 10w30 in the winter to minimize the oil burning.

I use high-mileage 10w-30. I've considered synthetic, but I don't think it is a good thing .....
