Clutch replacement ?...

I have a '94 DX 5spd 'rolla and the clutch is slipping hella bad. I have gotten quoten from local shops for like $200.00 for the labor. That got me to thinking about doing it myself. I have put clutches in trucks and mustangs before but never a FWD. Does the subframe need to be dropped in order to get it out or can it be done with the sub still in? Also on a '93 Taraus that I have the haynes says to use a wooden dowel rod to hold the ddiff gears in place when removing both axles...... does the same need to be done on the 'rolla? What is the best way to get the axles out with out seaperating them into two pieces too?

Thanks,
Nate.

So they quoted me a cheap labor rate? Doesn't sound like it but then again most of my clutch replacements have ben it rwd vehicles........ those are about $100 a pop. Any reccomendations on a clutch kit? The parts store sells Zoom replacements for 119.00 and I never had any trouble out of them with my trucks or mustangs but then again the fwd is a diff beast all together.

Thanks,
Nate

If you intend on keeping it, id say buy a exedy or another larger reputable manufacturers kit. I bought a cheaper kit and the spring on the disc fell out after 15k.

+1 more on Exedy. I have had various no-name and store brands with pressure plate problems, but I was impressed with the quality of components in the Exedy kit.
