re-install new cv axle

97 camry- drivers side cv axle bad. Got the old one out with ease, but cant reinstall the new. Can't get the slip ring past the spline. Is there a trick or tool?

Slip ring???

Typically just a good shove is enough to get the circlip through and seat the axle. You may have to do it a few times before it goes in.

I used a 5lb dead blow hammer. I swapped both CV axles on my 93 in 5 hours. Your talking about seating the split ring that is on the splined shaft. I hit the far end while I held inward pressure on the shaft.
Good Luck

Your method can destroy one or both joints. Hammering is not necessary.

MAybe if your really beating on it. Just tapping it with inward pressure is not going to destroy it.

well then, better never ever hit any potholes ever because i'll tell you what, smacking a pothole at 20 is going to hit that axle alot harder than a few firm whacks from a deadblow.

It is easier to install if you have the open end of the snap ring positioned at the bottom.
