I been doing alot of research lately on the late 90's european corolla which have a 6-speed tranmission paired to the 4afe as an optional on the g6 and g6r versions. Unfortunately, thats about all the information i could round up, haha. Just wondering if there are any major differences between the european and american versions of the corolla 4afe. Im mainly interested in the 6 speed (more for quality of driving than performance) as well as the red dash cluster available on the g6. Has anyone out there pursued this route?
Any Information would be great!
Thanks Cal

I had a c60 with my 4afe. I enjoyed it but as stated it revs around 4k-4100 rpm at 120kmh. Its a nice drive but c56 imo will do the same and you won't be rowing through the gear box in traffic. I am in 6th by 75-80km in most traffic situtations.

The 6-speed tranny would help with my accleration tho right? cuz my transmission has been rough going into 2 and 3 lately plus i've always wanted a 6-speed. Also depending if i could get a good deal at a scrap yard too
Your going to be looking from 500 if you have a horseshoe somewhere, to a more likely 800-1000 for the 6 speed. More if you want one with the lsd. You need one off a 20v Blacktop, as you need that bellhousing to bolt the transmission to your block. The c160 from the celica/corolla xrs won't work.
I honestly would just find a c56 off a 20v as they go for 100-300 and the gearing isn't much taller then the 6 speed.

I was under the impression the 7gen corolla had the c56 stock but i must have gotta my numbers mixed...what trany is in my car, and what cars come with the c56. Do u think i would notice the difference? Would it really be worth it? (keeping in mind the trany probs and im doing a clutch in the spring so ill have the transmission out of the car anyways) Also, what am i looking at for parts > new axles?, shift cables?, would the clutch be the same?
Everything is the same. Bolts in. Just the gears inside are slightly different. They came on the silver and black top 20v 4age. Depending on the year of your car you have a c50 or a c52.

Unless you plan on building out a track car, no... you'll just be pissed off crusing at 4800rpm doing 65...

It pulls a bit better in 2/3/4 but cruising at 5th is annoying, I can agree. Not worth the headache if your not going to do any serious driving with it.
