Starter SINGLE click problem 93 DX

My starter has been clicking once when I go to start and after a few tries it will finally start. I've noticed when it is cold it seems to be worse.

The starter does start the car with no trouble when it finally engages, but getting thru the first few (sometimes several) clicks is annoying.

I'm leaning towards it being the solenoid, but looking to see if anyone else thinks it might be something different.

I'd rather not replace the starter if I dont have to.

Any ideas will be helpful. Thanks!

Common problem in MANY starters of all brands. The solenoid contact and plunger get destroyed over time.

Check this out for potential parts and pics of what happens.

Cool. I know 'you get what you pay for' but what do you think of getting these parts at advanced or a local shop? If they have it there I'd rather pick it up there then wait. Of course if they would have to order them, I'd just order them from that link.

Hahaha! Lets see you get them from Advanced or Autozone. Get real, they want to sell you a STARTER, not some cheap parts.

There are a few auto-electric shops around the country but some of them will not sell parts.

Do what you like.

When I was installing my amp and sub in my car I would disconnect the negative terminal on the battery (to avoid damage to amp) and when I would want to test my amp or anything else I would just slide the negative terminal back onto the battery (but keep it loose). The stereo and amp would work fine but when I would try to start the car, it would occasionally do just what yours is doing. Turn the key, it makes one loud click, and then nothing.

When I tighten the negative terminal down tight on the battery post I do not get this problem at all. So by chance is your negative terminal loose on your battery?
