Spark Plug Tube Seals

Do the spark plugs need to be removed in order to pull the valve cover to replace the spark plug tube seals? Car is a '95 Corolla with 7AFE engine. I'm assuming I can just pull the plug wires, remove the four bolts and pull the valve cover, but wanted to make sure the spark plugs don't need to come out too.

well, you still have to remove the harness plastic cover and the harness going to the alternator, but to answer your original question, you can leave the spark plugs screwed in.

It is correct you don't need to remove the spark plugs, but you should know there's a total of 7 bolts/nuts to remove. There's the 4 obvious ones, then two holding the cover over the alternator cable (the cable itself will just slip over the valve cover), and one on the rear hook that goes over the lip of the valve cover.

When removing the seals to replace them, pry gently as to not score up the aluminum surface which the seal seats against.A pry tool is optimal or put the valve cover on 2 blocks of wood and tap them out from above.
