Transmission Pan info PLEASE HELP!!!!

I am changing the transmission pan gasket and I need to know the torque specifications for the drain bolt and torque specifications and sequence for replacing the pan bolts. Its a 1997 Toyota Corrolla 1.8 liter automatic. I appreciate any help as I just cant afford to take it into the dealer.

I torque mine down to 12-15 ft lbs, in a criss cross pattern. I do not know what toyota actually specs, but 2 of my other vehicles have this spec, hasn't ever leaked a drop. The drain plug I torque down to what the British service manual calls for: "Tighten plug securely"

since you stated you have the 1.8, then I'm assuming you have the 3 speed with overdrive. The oil pan bolt torque rating is 48 in.-lb..

basically they don't need alot of tightening.

This is too high for 6mm bolts that are typically used for attaching pans. 8-10 is adequate. 12-15 is for 8mm fasteners.

just until snug then go around again a little tighter watching the gasket for any squeezin bulging at each bolt hole,

if starting ot squeeze out then stop tightening

this is how i do all of them and always turn out perfect no leaks ever again.

ford ones are black rubber and reusable even says so on the trans pans,

and chrysler commonly used a black RTV seal gasket maker in a squeeze tube of their own at the dealership parts counter to seal the trans pans

over the years

and actually 48 in. lb. is only

4 lb.

So basically they don't need to be that tight, just snug each one up.
