What causes my sudden loss of power?
My friend just bought a 1996 Corolla (7A-FE, auto, 155K miles) that ran like new the first 3 days, but since (one week) it's had 3 episodes of sudden loss of power (city and highway speeds) little or no acceleration possible.
He put hazard lights on, pulled over on shoulder. Turned off ignition, turned back on and was good to go! Same for all 3 episodes.
Mechanic reported no stored engine codes. He replaced plugs and fuel filter--said both looked bad. He said other tuneup parts (cap, rotor, wires, etc) looked fine and didn't replace any of those....few days later, the third episode happened.
This 1996 Corolla hasn't had the best maintenance, or lotta city miles, judging from the small amount of sludge on underside the oil filler cap. (My 1993 Prism, with 248K (excellent maintenance and mostly hiway miles) has no sludge, just a very thin film of deposits.
so what do you think might be the problem causing my friend's 1996 Corolla's sudden loss of power?
