Speedometer Needle Slow After R&R

I have a problem I hope someone has a solution to. I have a 95 Corolla and got the parts from a wrecking yard to fix my trip meter and indeed, did fix it. I had to take the speedometer needle off and the dial face to reach the trip meter to repair. Reassembled, turned the key on and the speedo jumped to 30 mph.Ok,removed speedo needle with the key on and set at zero and pushed in enough to set the needle in place. When I went for a test drive the speedometer seems to show the correct mph. I was only going 25-30 around the block but is very slow to show any response as in slowing down or speeding up. When I pulled over it wouldn't always go to zero. Just does not have the quick response a speedometer has. When I removed the needle the first time was tension let off a spring? How do I correct this?

There is a spring that's responsible for the calibration of the speedometer. Basically, you need to get a GPS or something that will tell you your real speed, and then do a trial and error by placing the needle and seeing if it's accurate or not. I had to do this once, I recall the correct place was about 5 o'clock on the gauge face (you'll need to pop the speedo needle over the needle it rests on).

Yes, I had to do this, changing gauges multiple times. Mine went about the same way, at the 5 o'clock position... and the GPS was great.
