Canada Location of Block Heater

Hi,

Where is the block heater typically located on a base model 97 Corolla? Does the base model even have a block heater as a standard feature? There is no plug that I can spot.

I have brought the car from the coast and the weather is going to turn really cold over Alberta this weekend and I'd like to not have to put the car away for the winter.

Thanks,

Alin

I'm not sure if it was standard feature. My DX Plus has it, you can tell if you have it if there is a cap for the plug attached to the grille. The wire comes out of the front of the block underneath the exhaust manifold and runs to the grille on the driver side.

I have the 1996 DX. It did not come with the block heater.

I purchased it separately a couple years later for about $100 at the dealer.

The location where it is plugged to is not easy to see, it is located towards the the back of the engine, driver's side

I don't think any US versions came with them. I notice all of you are from Canada so this explains it...

Hmmm, my car has it. I have the plug wrapped around the front of the grill. I dont recall where it attaches to the block, but I'll see what freeze plug its stuck into when it gets light out.

97 DX here. It did not come with a block heater. I'm pretty sure it was an optional accessory.

I finally remembered to look in daylight hours.

It is attached to the block just under the right side of the exhaust manifold. It looks like its bolted in and not pressed in like a freeze plug. (well at least mine is!)

I have a pic, but havent seen an option to upload it with this message. PM with email addy if you wish for s copy.

Go to your partsource/canadian tire and ask them for one for it. You have to knock out a freeze plug (don't knock it into the motor, get it to spin like a coin on end and pull it out.) New one just bolts in and route the cable away from the manifold/heat.
Shouldn't be more then 40 bucks.

Is there anyway to get one of these in the US? I was checking catalogs and it does not appear to have ever been available. Winter is here and I could really use one.
