car wont start

Hello I recently purchased a 1997 Toyota Coralla for my 18 yo daughter and I was showing her some things she needs to learn about owning a car we diconnected the battery and cleaned it but when I reconnected the battery the horn and lights starting honking and flashing. Can someone please tell me how to fix the problem. The car will not do anything now. I can only assume it has some type of security system? Thank you in advance for any help.

That's definitely a security system. Looks like it disables the ignition too, which isn't uncommon. Look to see if there's a security system indicator in the center console, and if there isn't it's aftermarket and will be trickier to deal with.

I do have one of those small red lights on the bottom of the dash. But that is it. Thank you for your input.

Try and get hold of the original owner and ask them if they have an alarm pad for the car that they forgot to give you. Otherwise, get the alarm removed professionally by a mobile auto electrician.
