Clusteroni

New cluster arrived at 10:30AM. Swapped em' out by 10:45AM.Back from test drive at 11:00AM.Mission accomplished. My 95 Prism has had a dead speedo for like 4 months. I finally pulled the trigger on an ebay tach cluster from a 96 for 40 scoobies delivered-score.It even came with all the harness' attached which would have been nice if it didn't have the tach take of all ready there. EVERYTHING works correctly. All the lights and indicators,ABS and now I have to wait see if the fuel gauge is accurate or even working.I'm very happy. This is the first car in probably 15 years I have owned that didn't come standard with a tach. Any one wondering if the swap is hard? NO WAY. Definately worth 15 minutes of time for a long time of fun.

I'm curious to see what the 1.6 tachs at 75mph with the 3spd. You can really hear the engine turning. Looking forward to getting a new cluster.

Wow, that was pretty easy, huh? Mine wasn't so easy, I think I had a bad cluster though.

75 mph.. I wouldn't know.I drive like a damn old lady, torquing through the gears at low rpm barely touching the gas most of the time. I cruise around 65 i guess. I'll let you know. Ever since adopting a Zen driving style and never rushing, I haven't had a ticket or accident in 10 years.Knock on wood. I guess I just got old.As a young man behind the wheel of Chevelle and then just a stupid ridiculous 900 horse Grand National driven daily. My license was basically maxed out on points until my late 20's early 30's and insurance was a bitch. Then I lost the need for speed and it was off roading. Then that got old and I now like being thrifty with my transportation so I can spend it elsewhere. That's my bla bla bla gotta get to work.

Yeah wow is right, I figured it was somewhere up there.

I would have loved the 4spd, but it sees mainly city duty.

Thanks for the info!

actually, the four speed's RPM's isn't far off from the three speed if you drive with the O/D OFF.

technically, both are three speeds except one has an overdrive...which is considered the 4th gear.

You mean turning off OD is good for the mountains? Yeah, but I don't live there. If I need more help going up a hill, I push down the pedal and it automatically goes out of O/D

going down its good for also, or maintaining your speed up a hill. there is a speed at which at full throttle OD engages and really bogs the engine down. turning OD off helps ALOT.

So the clusters go bad? My girlfriend just bought a '93 for $700, and one of the problems is has is the speedo doesn't work until you hit about 45 mph, then it indicates 60 mph ... i don't think it's a big deal when i'm driving it, but it would be nice to fix 'er.

i was thinking of testing the speed sensor in the tranny first, but if the clusters on these things go out that would save a diagnostic step or two...

Ya man. Get an ebay cluster and swap em' in 15 minutes with a Phillips screwdriver. It is the easiest job you can do. You just sit in the drivers seat, relax, take the 2 top trim screws out.Pull out the trim. Pull 4 screws from the cluster. Lean it forward. Get your hand in there and undo the 3 harness'. That's it. Then reverse the order..finished 15 minutes.TADA
