I have a 95 Prizm with about 135000 miles on it. I just bought the car, and drove it from Michigan to the Yucatán penninsula in Mexico, about 3500 miles, so I'm ready to give it an oil change.
The manual recommends 10w-30 in this engine (1.6). However, I went to AutoZone here in Mexico, and they recommended a different grade for high mileage vehicles. He sold me Castrol GTX High Mileage 25W-60 oil. He insisted this is what I needed.
I'm not putting it in my car until I hear get some more opinions. It doesn't seem right to me.
Keep in mind, this is a hot climate. 80-90 in winter, 95-115 in summer.
Go by what's in your manual. If your car is operated where it is generally warm all the time then use the oil for that type of temp. There should be oil for high mileage engines that match the viscosity of the oil recommended in the manual.

Thanks guys.
WOW, yea, I don't think I would put that in there. The cooling system on our cars are very effecient. That is almost ridiculous to put that in there. Now considering the hotter temps, I would recommend a heavier weight.....like 15W40...at the most. I think even 20W50 is considerably too high! Personally I think that is way to thick and could possibly blow the main seals.
use some high mile forumal 10w40 year round and you'll be fine. 10w-30 is also fine, so is 5w-30. i ran 5w-30 year round in my geo without issue and gained overall 1-2mpg.
He's one of those oldschool thicker ='s more protection guys. No longer true. I realize it's hot in Mexico but anything heavier then a 40 in the 1.6 is ridiculous.
I bet you could have gone to 5K easily. Just change with more 5w-30 or 10w-30. Unless you have some good oil leaks I wouldn't bother with the high mileage oils (if it ain't broke don't fix it).
I didn't know they made 25w60........oh yes know i remember its called molasses
