Attempted weekend 20v swap, oooo the drama!

So to keep things simple this is my friends corolla, Greg. Jay, Josh, and Rachael are also pictured and lended varying degrees of help.

The run down:

swap old smallport for 20v and clean up everything that was bastardized before by monday cause Greg needs the car for work.

The old smallport 16v that was hacked in the some shop in Hamilton, one of the worst I've seen as far as wiring goes. but it did run with 4afe transmission (c50)

Pour out a little for the liquor for the smallport, that should be getting a rebuild and carbs instead of the 20v, but not my car. was a jdm engine that was running in his car for about 4 years.

the patient, 1997 corolla lx or something like that.

because of the other shop killing his old harness we bought this 1994 corolla as a donor for the entire chassis harness plus it came with some extras good tires new factory gas/brake lines front to back and manual steering rack which Jay grabbed for his ae101.

Greg starting dissassembly.

Rachael trying to hide. did not contribute anythig but coffee and some "you guys spend too much time working on your cars" comments.

black man behind bars ha.

Josh getting distracted by his sled.

timing belt change, engine also got plugs, cap, rotor wires, new vacuum lines, and trans got a mixture of royal purple synchromax and redline mtl 70w80.

and all settled in looks so nice.

engines all in so focus moves back to interior.

Well this is where I stopped taking pictures and things took a turn for the worse. A friend of ours, Ryan (he does harnesses so if your looking for a conversion pm me) helped alot with the splicing the two engine harnesses and after we plugged everything in it cranked the first time and all seemed well. so we took out the fuel pump fuse and primed it. Put fuse back in crank, crank, crank, nothing.

We went over everything and all checked out so we went for the one last tool nobody wanted to get, the compression tester.

the result = no compression noteworthy anywhere.

will call eagle japan tomorrow and see what they will do for us, grey area right now is that the 20v had a 30 day start up guarentee which I told the owner was not enough time, he said no problems engine is good, which was back in august. When we went there to pick up the engine I say we want to do a compression check to make sure, guy says we compression check all our engines and it is good, mistake we make by the look of things right now = take his word for it.

I will update this when we have some resolution.

good luck on getting it running again. If it cranked and ran good first, it shouldn't be nothing major. But then again. I don't know a whole lot in rewiring the harness. I plan to get harness and ECU included with my engine to make things easier. But again, nice work there...I'm sure it will pay off soon.

I wish I had a blacktop in mine My only problem is that there's no one here to help me do the swap and I don't really trust any of the small shops here. I'll probably have to do it in Vegas or something.

We called the importer today and got the answer I was expecting. Greg signed papers that stated he had a 30 day start up guarantee and since he bought the engine way back in august that the time had expired. I want to go down there in person, but Greg's looking for another way out.

In the mean time we are going to soak the cylinders with wd40 for a few days and hope that mayby the rings are sticking since it had been stored covered outside since we got it and who knows how long it was sitting before that. After this we will try another compression test and if it still fails will do a leak down and then go from there. I'm hoping it wasn't overheated badly before.

updates by the weekend I expect.

ouch.. every swapper nightmare...

on a brighter note: Shop owners drive cars too and when you spot weld every wheel to the rotor they usually get the idea :P

or u could always go with a brick! lol

dunno about the motor though hopefully its just worn rings!!!!

Ouch, that sucks to hear. Hope things turn out for the better soon.

What transmission is going in? 5spd? 6spd with LSD?
