Did my e-brake just break?

I was just driving home from the store and heard a snap in the driver side rear. Next thing I notice is this squealing sound in the rear when I hit the brakes.

I got home and parked. Then I pulled the e-brake and "uh-oh", there was little to no tension. I drove around the parking lot at low speeds pulling the e-brake and it was not stopping/slowing down the car at all.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

the cables do break occasionally. or become stretched over time and just pop off.

Best thing to do, is get under and check.

Just read a thread saying that the brake shoe retainers may have snapped? Is that a possibility? I did hear a snapping sound in the driver rear drum.

What parts will I need to fix this?
