Junkyard or ebay, but this would be the perfect time to do a 4AGE swap. plenty of them on ebay.

you would have to get one paired with a tranny. youll have to replace the computer and wiring harness. most 4ages on ebay come with all of these.

depends what your next step, easy way is to rebuild your 4afe & since your in california you'll be smog legal also.

or just like rip the e brake says swap a AE92 4age engine, harness & ecu, since you are in california you can make that smog legal by going to BAR and get a BAR sticker. if your thinking you'll get more power sure maybe if you get a healthy or rebuild 4age assuming its still holding a compression ratio of 9.4

or buy a front cut Japanese ae92 or ae101 4agze, 4age 20V silvertop or blacktop you'll have a very noticeable power but you wont be smog legal

Or whats getting famous right now no yaris and scion people a 2zzge from a pontiac vibe or celica GTS w/ a 6 speed tranny, that you can also do a smog legal in caifornia.

if you want a japanese 2zzge w/ tranny you can get it here also but don't think it will be a california smog legal

No you do not need to convert the car to RWD. Any 4AGE will work with any FWD transmission that came on a 4A series motor. That said, why do a 4AGE? For the cost, effort and time you would be better off doing a 20 Valve of 4AGZE. Though if you couldn't keep track of oil level, I would not suggest doing an engine swap.

Any "A" family engine will bolt up as far as engine mounts go. And like CJrocker said, you don't have to convert it to RWD. You can get a 16V 4AGE...or better a supercharged 4AGZE engine (commonly found in MR2's) here in the states or get the imported 20V silvertop or blacktop engine....which is also part of the 4AGE family.
