Battery Light stays on but alternator charging

Hi all
anybody familliar with this one.
my car id a Jdm right hand drive - Corolla ceres- AE100, 5AFE 1500cc (93 -94)

recently my alternator went bad and i replaced it with a used/rebuilt one.

the new alternator seems to be charging just fine but the battery charging light stays on fixed and at full brightness.

what is more worrying though is another warning (red) light right next to the battery. the best description i can give of it is that it looks somewhat like the indicatoe for the rear defogger but upside down (or some kind of heat indicator). i never noticed it before.

unplugging the alternator connector is the only way i can get these lights to go off.

seen anytying like this - or any useful suggestions.

That warning light is next to the battery indicator charging light on the dash board not next to the battery as stated
