Yep (although it differs between countries). That'll be right considering you live in the US though. The rears will either be 6.5" if they're at the very far corners of the rear window, or 5.25" if they're slightly closer to the center of the rear window.

Shouldn't do. My Corolla was built in Japan for the European market so has 6.5" speakers in the front and pod type speakers in the rear.

In your case I'd say that the speakers would be the same as if the car was built in the US. Just check the rear ones as they could be either the 6.5" or 5.25" version. Easy to tell .

the american rollas have 6x9 cutouts in the rear deck.

there are some people here that have outfitted the front with 5.25" and with a little cutting or shaving, they were able to use the factory cutouts.

You can fit 6.5" up front with 1" risers. There's enough room behind the upholstery panel for it.

It's also worth warning that some newer speakers will not fit cleanly under the stock speaker housing/dome. I ran into this with a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch series speakers I had, because they integrated the frame for the grille into the speaker (whereas on my current Kenwood Excelons that is all separate from the speaker). In the front, it comes stock with 3.5" but you can go all the way up to a 6.5" when you take the stock mount out IIRC.

The Excelon 6.5"s are a nice match for this car in the rear. I have them and know at least one other person here who uses them too. It is also not impossible to run 6.5" and 6x9" speakers in the back; bitter did that.

no, i just ran the 6x9's off the head unit with no 6.5" rounds. BUT you could do both, would need a good amp like a 4 channel for the front doors and rear 6.5"s and then a two channel for the pair of 6x9's and split off the rear RCA's...or something.

to mount the 6x9's you'll need to cut custom mounts from wood and glue/attach them to the rear deck. i used some tough plywood and liquid nails. i made a trace of then opening top and bottom and transferred the trace of the top, cut the blank, added the trace of the bottom, and worked the wood on a sander to get the shape close, checking it for fit each time, eventually i had one that fit perfect. i used it to make the second one even quicker, glued them in, let the glue set, and screwed the speakers down. voila! done.
