Vent Control Broke

In my wife's 1995 Corolla DX, we went to switch from the vents to defrost when it decided it wouldn't work anymore. I don't think it's dependent on a vacuum but rather a cable or arm that opens and closes different vents based upon its position from left to right in the center control panel.

Is there like a wire or clip that makes this work? where can I start and how can I fix it?

There's a wire that goes from the slider to piece responsible for directing the air. Check to see if it popped off the back of the slider, if not I'd say the cable snapped.

fixed it

I'll post a picture later, but after iToaster's reply, I traced the cable to under the steering wheel near the pedals but the side of the center of the dash. And the cable had come off the peg that was there. slipped the cable back on it and voila!, it worked...I think i'll get a locking pin to keep it on or something.

Thanks for the help!
