Timing Belt change issue

I finally got the starter off. per the instructions "jam a big screwdriver in the teeth of the flywheel" while an assistant unbolts the pully

1) had a thought to mark TDC on the belt/pully at the top cover so I can make sure the factory timig mark is really where it should be after done. will this work?

2) big problem is I cant keep the flywheel from moving any suggestions as to a tool or method of keeping it in place? the last thing I want to do is break something or mess the timing up.

you can always re-time the engine if you have to, not a huge deal.

stick a screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole and CAREFULLY turn the crank to get the piston to TDC. Then you can check your marks.

If you have manual transmission, just engage 4th gear and have an assistant push the brakes. Then unbolt the pulley. The bolt is really tight.

The crank pulleys have a key, it should be pointing up along the engine. The engine leans a tiny bit so it may not be absolutely vertical. Then the hole in one of the spokes of the upper timing pulley should align with a notch on the camshaft bearing cap. Then you have it on TDC on compression stroke.
At least that is how things are on 4AFE (1.6l). I doubt it would be different on 7AFE.

Does the piston need to be at the top (screwdriver at highest point) or at the bottom of shaft for TDC
