It is legit. Now here is a problem, it rattles, it vibrates while idle. It has the hum and stiffness of an old VW on the road. My brother in law has been doing street mechanics his whole life and said that the mounts were fine and that it seems like the timing is set too high and it is causing it to vibrate like that while sitting (it runs like a top). Plastic on the coolant reservoir has a broken bit and when I put a piece of cardboard there, it helped stop the vibrating. Just wondering what you guys might think? Pics:
Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your purchase. We don't get that model here in New Zealand so it's interesting to see the photos. The leather seats look comfy. The exterior panels look nice and straight too. I'm sure you'll work out the kinks in the engine and have it running at full efficiency in no time .

Oh man the leather chairs are dreamy it definitely feels more like you're sitting in a full-size luxury car
Nice find! To answer your question about vibration, it's the passenger side motor mount that has gone bad. It's a fairly common issue, and a pretty easy fix; just replace the mount.
I'm tired of daily driving stick, especially in the city. I'll get the stick when school's over and I start making the money to have a project toy. Daily drivers will remain autos from here on.

Ahh, so it wouldn't be easily detectable because it being faulty doesn't cause the engine to rock back and forth?

Yeah, it won't be that obvious, but over all of the years that car has been on the road the mount tends to be subjected to conditions that cause the material to break down and transfer more engine vibrations to the frame. So far I've replaced the mount on two Corollas and both times it eliminated all of the nasty vibrations.
Nice, mine's a 93 LSi, but a manual. I never knew these came with leather or was this added later on? Mine is teal btw, you can see it in my sig and i recently posted pics in the 7th gen sticky thread. Yea its most likely the mounts, also to be on safe side check axles, bearings, balance the wheels and alignment.

Man, just start her up and take a walk around pressing or lifting panels here and there 'til u isolate the sources of the rattling, make a note of them and then examine them one by one to see how u can resolve them. It's usually bolts or clips that've gone missing over the years.
Because it's an older car, and with your climate, the diurnal expansion and contraction of the plastic interior panels will cause them to warp slightly over time so they won't fit as snug and thus will rattle a bit.
That's nothing some very thin strips of double-sided tape where the plastic panels join can't solve. Or it you're really anal about it, take a heat gun to it and try n' get 'em straight again. I'd go with the tape tho lol
You got a nice clean ride there, get rid of the rattling and you'll be really happy with her.

Thanks everyone. Thanks Hook. One of the things I tried when we were buying it was pressing my knee against the front bumper on the passenger side and I swore it was a loose bumper. We'll have to work on it when there's time this weekend.
93geo: I looked it up and apparently Geo did offer leather interior, not sure what year it started though. I was mighty surprised to see that interior myself. It was definitely a selling point.
