gen 7 93 Corolla Starting problems

Hello everyone at TN,

Just recently I have been having issues with starting. When trying to start, the engine will not turn over or anything, all that is heard is a load click from engine bay area. Upon trying 1-20 times eventually the car will start up. This seems to take longer on colder or rainy days. Sometimes its instant, sometimes it take 5-20 clicks to get it going.

Sometimes it starts up fine after the clicks, and sometimes it sputters for a little bit and then sounds to be idling normally.

I have done insane amounts of researching the forums and trying my own things.

Could this be a starter issue? Or starter contacts? I know that some starters have a lifetime warranty on them, So I am leaning more towards the contacts.

If it is the starter, is there any forum topic with pics on how to remove it? I tried extensively and it is impossible for me. I jacked up the car and tried getting the bolt underneath and it would not budge. There is too little room to get good torque on the socket making it impossible to move. I can't find the other bolt on top. I removed the air cleaner assembly and I had no luck.

I had to replace a lot of crap on this car recently and I have like 0 money so I am trying to not take the car in.

Any suggestions on what this could be? The contacts are not loose because I checked them as well.

I have just got this problem + a second one....

Start by checking:
* Battery
* Battery terminals
* Earth straps

I know the battery, the battery terminals, and the alternator are just fine as they were just replaced like 3 months ago.

Solenoid contacts wear out.

Your choice: Install new ones for a small fee or buy another solenoid or complete starter depending on how your parts place will sell it to you.
