Seat Belts Not Retracting

Just lately, my seat belts are not retracting all that well. I take the seat belt off and it just kinda hangs/lays there.

Is there something i can do to fix this?

Thanks

I think the fix for this entails removing the spring and coiling it a few more times to ensure it stays tight... but I've never done this. It seems they lose some tension over the years.

Cleaning the seatbelts usually helps a bit for a while. But the root cause is that the belt has a lot of tiny threads sticking out from it, which make it difficult to slide through all the openings. Happens over time as the belt wears out.

I have the same problem. It's extremely annoying. I have considered purchasing a new driver side seatbelt if they are not to much

My belts aren't shredded or furry but they ALMOST go all the way up and then stop. When u try to walk it in, u can tell there's no tension on it, so I'm believing the spring idea works.

Anyone wanna do a DIY write-up? lol

I'm also thinking it's the tensioner. My seat belts are not frayed either. If that spring idea is doable, I might try that first. But I need to remove it to get a good look at it and see what it will involve.

Any luck on repairing the seatbelts? I am having the same problem and was going to just replace it with one from the junkyard, but if its possible to fix the tension then I'm all ears.

I have that problem as well and im all ears as well, and somtimes on the passenger side the seat belt will not come out, no matter how much u pull on it. I would have to turn the car off before i can get it out, even then it dosnt come out all the time.

Resetting the spring does help, but if you find your seatbelt is sticking as well, the best thing to do is use armor all obn the seatbelt since it wont stain clothes either and it will free any dust/dirt causing problems with the spring and gear. It'll take a few applications to get it working the way it should again, but it does come around.

cleaning them and then giving them a light spray with some thin silicone lube spray works great also.

I was having the same problem with my seat belt too. I tried the Armor All treatment and it worked very well indeed! I sprayed (saturated is more like it) some Armor All onto a folded paper towel and wiped it on both sides of the seat belt. Did that twice and then one more time I did just the outside edges of the belt.

Worked like a charm and I'm very happy.
