Question . Is my 1996 Corolla a better car that the Matrix

I am trying to compair my 1996 Corolla to a 2006 Pontiac Vibe/Matrix. I am disabled and find it very hard to get in and drive my Corolla. We bought it new in 96 and it has been the best car we have ever owned. Now with my disability I have to Chose between keeping it or buying a 06 Matrix or vibe. The Corolla has just 48,000 miles on it. The Vibe has 60,000 miles on it. I am concerned about the overall quality of the matrix or vibe compared to my 96 Corolla, should I be ?? Thanks for your answers, Dan.

If overall quality and durability is important to you, then keep the Corolla.

The quality of the interior plastics in the Matrix is definitely not as good as the Corolla of that era.

But if you need a lot of cargo space and easier ingress/egress (have to crouch down less), then get the Matrix.

Hope this helps.

Funnily enough, I have both a 95 corolla and a Matrix right now. The Corolla is my commuter car, and the Matrix is a rental we have while the Passat is in the body shop after someone hit it (long story). The Matrix is new, so maybe its not the same, but I imagine it is pretty similar, so here is my input: The Matrix is completely gutless( of course, so is the corolla), I couldn't believe how weak the engine/tranny combo felt. The build and finish was pretty poor, everything seemed like cheap plastic that rattled and didn't fit tight, the seats were pretty uncomfortable and hard to adjust, plus you sit way up high, like you're driving a bus. The visibility in this car sucks! you can't see very well in any direction except straight ahead. Finally, even though the Matrix looks like a biggish car, there is no room. Even my old Corolla has more leg room and is easier to get in and out of. I'm not sure what your disability is, but with the matrix you have the ease of a hatchback, although I found even that to be lacking as it had a hard plastic floor and the door was hard to open and close without sticking, but there seems to be a lot less comfofrt and ease of use to the driver than my corolla. Bottom line:I prefer the Corolla, both for comfort and reliability, but also for ease of repair and fuel economy, but the Matrix has a hatch, and you might find that useful.

I think you should be open to anything that you can get in and out of easily, and not limit your choices to Toyota.

I'm 6'4" and fit in almost every Japanese car. I DONT fit in US cars. Looking around you can probably find something that fits you and still be reliable.

Good luck.

How about a 93-96 Corolla or Camry Wagon?
