overdrive tranny delay shift when cold

I have a '96 Corolla automatic transmision (115K mi. and trans has been just serviced). When the car is cold (before and after the service), there is about a 1 mile period when the car will shift into overdrive. It is fine when the car is warmed up. Any reasons why there is a shifting delay other than cold trans fluid? What is the fix? Thanks.

Sounds normal. The reason for the delay is so that the Tranny fluid can be warmed, and that the tranny won't be damaged. Many cars have this, to protect the tranny from wear.
