did you reset the trip meter while the car was moving? If so, then you f*ked it up.

I never had one break when I reset it while moving!

Usually when they stick or stop its when the reset rod doesnt return all the way back.

Yeah, I've never heard of a trip meter breaking when you reset it while driving. What can happen though is they can occasionally stick when you reset at nearly 0000. It will make a clicking sound as you drive along. It probably was damaged after driving along with it for an extended period of time liek that.

Sounds like the teeth on the small gear for trip meter have torn off. This can happen due to the factory oil on the gear turning into goo, which causes the teeth to not be lubricated effectively (pushing it while driving doesn't help either, lol). You should just be able to replace the gear and it'll be as good as new. Most odometer repair shops will be able to sell you the replacement part, just be sure to count the number of teeth on the gear to ensure you get the right one .

YES I KNOW THAT. But the bike had the same trip meter setup as the corolla. As far as fixing it, I have no idea.
