Hello everyone. I recently got a deal on a 93 corolla dx with 88k original miles in mint condition. Car has been stored for the past 7 years. Last year it had its' oil changed and brakes done then sat through winter.
I bought the car and at first it would crank over and spark but no fuel. I went and bought a fuel pump and swapped it out today and it started and idled perfect. I let it idle for about 15 minutes before i shut it off. No CEL and no warning lights. About 11 hours later i went to go start it and it won't start up. I checked spark and it has spark on all four and i could hear the fuel pump kick in. What seems to be the problem? It sounds weird when i crank it, the engine doesn't seem to rock back and fourth very much. I have no car and would really appreciate the help.
Your gonna need to get under neath, and bang on the starter with a hammer, while someone else cranks it over... if she fires after that.. starters bad...

if the starter is bad wouldn't the alternator belt not move? i had someone else crank it and i looked at the alt belt and it was moving, that was also how i check spark too. Im heading over to the car now and gonna put some new gas in it and try jump (cable) starting it.
weird, i unplugged the injector pigtails and cranked it to try and clear something. I plugged them back in and vualllaaa...it started and ran fine....
anyone know why this is??
A few possibilities...
1. Bad injector(s.)
2. Bad injector plug/wiring. Might be a short somewhere.
3. Clogged fuel line/filter or injectors from trash in the fuel tank. Seven years is a long time for a car to sit with fuel in the tank.
4. Bad gas from sitting for so long.
5. Dying ECU.
If it's running properly now it was probably just bad gas in the line or gunk in the injectors. You'll probably be fine from now on. If not, start looking for injectors and their electrical plugs. The odds that it's your ECU going out are really slim but it's also possible.
damnit, it's doing it again....I didn't have time to unplug and plug the injectors back but i am thinking it might be a clogged fuel filter.
yesterday when it started i drove it to the gas station and put some new gas in it. came back home went to work and came back do the same problem. If the fuel filter don't work im going to pull the injectors and get them cleaned.

ok. I've driven it about 100 miles now. Every time i leave it sit for more than 3 hours it will not start. I pull the plugs and the cylinders are flooded with fuel. I disconnect the pump and injectors and crank it until it clears. Re-plug everything back in and it starts fine. Somehow fuel is entering the cylinders via the injectors and is flooding it. What would cause this? Im thinking that somehow the injectors are not closing all the way so when i let it sit the fuel slowly leaks through the injectors and floods the engine.
So far i have ran some seafoam through the pcv valve and in the gas tank. I put a full tank of gas in it. Tonight i have unplugged the fuel pump and cranked it about ten seconds to makes sure there is no fuel in throughout the system. Im going to see if this will confirm my hypothesis.
FYI- putting the gas pedal to the floor while starting disengages the injectors and allows you to clear the cylinder/plugs of excess fuel instead of having to unplug them.
you have leaky fuel injectors! more correctly they're sticking open partly. when the car sits the fuel pressure bleeds out through the injectors into the cylinders and floods them. they need to be replaced or professionally cleaned.
just had a 2.4 grandam last week that was doing this with cylinder #4 badly.
