95 corolla ball joint removal

ok heres whats going on, im in the process of replacing a bent control arm and i need to remove the ball joint cuz the fitting on it is bent as well, is there any way i can press or hammer the ball joint out without having to remove the steering knuckle from the shock absorber? im thinking of using a large c-clamp and pressing it out that way instead of having to use a ball joint press cuz the press would just be blocked by the rubber boot right above the main 17mm nut on the ball joint
