Transmission is acting up, any advice?

I have a '93 corolla with a 3psd auto transmission o/d. The car will work in reverse, but won't work in D 2 or L. Did a transmission fluid change, and nothing. When the car warms up(after 15mins or longer), it'll move SLOWLY in D, 2, or L. Is it time for a new transmission? Speedsensor? Neutral switch? Let me know, because I need a car bad!

Hmm... a couple possibilities...

1. The transmission control module. If this was faulty it could easily cause your problem. I think the TCM is on the main ECU.

2. Transmission bands/clutch packs worn. Time for a transmission rebuild.

I'm betting on #2, because if the TCM is on the ECU and it was causing the problem, chances are the ECU itself would be damaged and the car wouldn't run or wouldn't run properly.

Any difference with the overdrive on or off, many times the od unit can be the issue. How does the trans fluid look? How is the level?
Low fluid level will mean, no movement. Dirty/old oil will mean sticking valve bodies and the trans may not engage into gear properly.

I'm thinking of 2 also...I'll start looking around for a used transmission

I haven't tried the O/D off, but it's blinking though.

The trans fluid came out brown. When I did the fluid change, I put in 3 quarts. But after the fluid change, again, car will only go in Reverse, but won't engage in D 2 L, if you rev high (4k+), it'll move slowly....

Thanks for the info guys!

Oooh, yeah, brown trans fluid = burnt to hell and back. Replace the trans fluid and see if anything changes, but chances are your bands are shot to hell.

The only maintenance item I failed on was transmission fluid. I bought the car new and never had it changed. At about 100k, the 3 speed OD transmission wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. I took it to a dealer I really trust and they did one of those chemical flushes. The transmission is working like new again. I couldn't believe it. I won't make that mistake again.

You might want to check into this if made my same mistake.
