I have a couple of questions that hopefully some people can answer. I have a 1997 corolla CE auto.
I am wondering if its possible to change from auto to manual without having to get a new engine.
Also I was wondering where I could get a nice front bumper for a good price. I want it to have fogs in it, but i dont want it to look ricer. I guess im just looking for a nice lip kit.
The engines are the same, but the numerous body electrical and mechanical modifications you'll need to do to make the car happy with the manual tranny might be a little overwhelming. You're looking at all of the manual drivetrain related bits, obviously, but also the electrical components, like the new ECU you'll need. As far as bumpers are concerned, there aren't many great aftermarket ones around. Your best bet is to wait for a bumper from another country's Corolla to pop up on eBay, I'm personally rather fond of the bumper off of the Corolla FX.

I dont mean to be a pain but would you happen to have the full list of parts needed? Im willing to do this tranny swap and obviously I want to do it right..

Offhand...
M/T (obviously)
Clutch
Clutch pedal
Clutch fluid reservoir
M/T Brake Pedal
M/T motor mounts (I believe at least one of the mounts is different, if nto two)
M/T shifter
Those are most of the mechanical parts offhand, but I think I'm missing a couple. As for electrical stuff, I do not know what you might need to do for one on an OBDII car.

As far as electrical things go, finding a junked CE with a 5 speed would be easiest. You'd need the engine bay harness and the ECU for sure, but you might also need the dash harness because the extra wiring the A/T shifter has might make the plugs different than on the M/T version. If you're good with wiring you might be able to just cut and splice things.
CJRocker has a pretty good list, but you'll also want to get the flywheel for the manual transmission and the master and slave cylinders. That's just off the top of my head, though, there could be a few things I'm forgetting.
so you trying to get like my car huh...... frankly im a lil tired of driving a manual..... my left knee hurts ... manual cars are perfect weekened cars...other then that they suck....

so you did a whole tranny swap plus the electrical stuff?
as far as im concerned im not worried about my knee hurting lol ive always wanted a manual but a free automatic corolla was my only option
also you wouldnt happen to have any photos of your car would you?
ohh no no the car is factory manual....and dont get me wrong....manual cars are excellent except when you get stuck in a traffic jam,... like i got into today. Also if i was you i would just buy a 5spd corolla instead of doing the swap thing.... i got my corolla for 1700 bucks from craigslist.... Sorry I dont have any pics, but if you want i can take some.....Good Luck though.....

my source/friend(fellow 7th gen owner) has been on the look out for an FX bumper for us but hard to come buy, but he just might able to bring this in =D
^ That's a nice looking bumper. I've actually been on the look-out for some of those headlights. The wreckers want far too much for them over here.
If the prices weren't so high to send large items from NZ to overseas then I'd gladly ship you an FX-GT front bumper. They're literally everywhere over here!
