4afe done, what next?

hey guys

i own a 94 corolla that currently ran with a jap spec 4afe up until tonite when it blew. i'm now looking into what can be done with the car. i've been doing research on swaps for some time and i've come to a few possible engines, but i'm not too sure yet. right now i've got it down to either 7afe or a 4ag - 16 or 20 valve. i'd maybe go with a gze but i'm more partial to keeping the car n/a, boost seems like more headaches for a daily. right now i'm also auto, so i'm thinking of just swapping that out for a manual as well.

i realize that dropping in another 4afe or maybe a 7af would be the easiest route, but i'm also looking to get more power. so, i would like to hear from people who have either of the 4ag swaps done, with both pros and cons. how easy was it to swap in? how is maintenance? etc. i've really wanted a 20v for some time but i worry that if i get it i won't be able to get parts if it ends up needing repairs down the road, since it wasn't an engine we got in the states.

any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been looking for more info on swaps too, but it seems to be well hidden in the toyota community.

I dont recall seeing 20v engines coming with auto trans. I'd be leery of the stock trans being mated to an engine with higher horsepower. of course you know there are a whole bunch of parts to scrounge for a manual swap.

4A-GE 20v engines also came in auto form, but to get the most out of the engine it would be best to just use a manual transmission.

thats correct ther are % speed auto tranny's for the 20V but like kiwi said to really get the most and hear those valves sing lol a manual approach would be better currently i have a 4afe with a 4age bottom half and that works fine for me. but it really comes down to what make your mind cormfortable and your pockets lol.
