couple questions

Hi everyone, as the title states, I've just got a couple questions for you guys. I may be able to get my hands on a '93 corolla, manual transmission, with almost 90k in mileage and in mint condition.

1. Should I get the thing?! Price is 3k.
2. It has the 1.6L engine. It is pretty small for what I'm used to so I was wondering how it performs. Am I going to feel the car have trouble putsing to 60 mph? I'm not asking for a street racer either, I just don't want to be driving a slush box either.

I appreciate all your feedback. Thanks.

What are you driving now, and what are you used to driving?
If you've been driving v8s then yes you will notice a difference, but hey, less power comes with perks such as cheaper on gas and saves gas and practicability. So a corolla with a 1.6L yes you will get up to 60mph easily surely not easy as a v8, but it's not a hardship ahha. For 90k miles only yes I'd get one, but just remember that's when you will need to change out the timing belt so take costs for doing that into consideration.

Well, I was driving an 06 Jetta with a 2.5L. It was super clean but my sister had to go and total it... ;_;
Thanks for your reply

Try and knock them down on the price a bit as that's a tad on the high side, but the mileage sounds good. The 1.6L will get to 60mph with ease, they're peppy little motors compared to a lot of other 1.6s on the road. Plus, Corollas don't weight much so that always helps. If you're still a little concerned then ask the owner if you can take it for a test drive before you buy it, that should put your mind at rest .

Wouldn't go more than $2k, and that is assuming that the car is mint, has no rust, the engine runs perfect (no leaks) and has proof of maintenance having been performed with all the major parts (suspension, brakes, tires, timing belt) being fairly new.. $3k is too much imo. 90k or not, it's 17 years old. I would probably go half that unless the struts/shocks and tires are less than year old.

As for power, it is what it is. Not going to have the thrust of a V6, but on flat ground it goes fine, and with the manual you don't have to worry about the 3-speed's stupid long second gear. It'll be fine. You'll get at least 30mpg mixed with it though. Be aware if you're into after market parts, they're aren't many to find aside fro a K&N air filter element.

$3000 is too much. Is this car "loaded"?

Unless this car the leather package and all the fixings... 3k is too much... 1800 is more like it...
