Towing Capacity?

I searched and couldn't find much. But does anyone know what the towing capacity is for my 97 Corolla? It's 1.6L 3spd Auto no overdrive. I want to tow a 300 lbs motorcycle and an open trailer.

Thanks ahead.

Mine is a '95 1.6 with manual tranny but that should not make much difference. Registration papers say 2600lbs as the cars physically possible towing capacity. But there may be other limitations depending on the category of the driver's license, and probably the country in question. For instance, standard passenger car driver's license (B category in Europe) allows only a trailer whose gross weight (trailer + cargo) does not exceed the vehicle's curb weight. Heavier trailer requires either a heavier vehicle or BE driver's license.
In any case, unless your trailer is a tank you should be way below 2600lbs and whatever potentially smaller towing capacity yours might have due to auto tranny.

The safe towing capacity for a 1997 Corolla is 1500lbs.

If you can carry 4 200lb people in your car, I think a 300lb bike would be okay to pull.

I pull a lightweight trailer with two or three motorcycles all the time. I had 5 minibikes last year to VIR.

Legally, I think Toyota doesnt want you to pull a trailer, but there are hitches available and any small open trailer should be OK.

2600# sounds like a LARGE load for our cars.

Yup, 2600lbs is A LOT. This is pretty much the curb weight of a Corolla. To pull a trailer this heavy, it is required to be equipped with its own brakes that are activated by a signal coming from the car. If the trailer is only equipped with brakes that are activated mechanically, due to the trailer pushing on the towing vehicle, the max weight of the trailer is 1500lbs, just like Kiwi said.
