Changing the air filter

I have no idea how to remove the hoses to change the air filter for my 96 corolla.

There should be a screw on the clamp that holds the hose to the airbox. Loosen that screw, and the clamp will slide and increase in diameter, letting you disconnect the hose from the airbox. The hose may be a bit stuck on the plastic, just work it loose.

I've never had to undo hoses to replace air filters on any Corolla I've owned. Aren't there just little bails that hold the lid of the air cleaner in place? (Or, in the case of my '76, a wing nut holding the air cleaner onto the carburetor?)

I pry all the clips and i can only partially open the lid.
it seems like the hoses hold the lid in place.

Unclip the clips..lift up the cover partially, grab filter, pull out, insert new. No need to remove the box LOL

As above. Just remove the clips.

Here is a picture.... Just unclip these clips, then give the top a good yank until you can remove the air filter.
