Need Advice - 1993 Corolla wagon rim/tire size

SITUATION: Bought some 16x7 rims with 40 offset for my 1993 Corolla wagon. Tire size on rims now are 205/55/R16.

PROBLEM: Couldn't fit because tires are too high/wide. Tires are touching strut badly, and don't think spacers will help.

QUESTION: Does anyone know if 195/50/R16 tires will work. Hard to locate used tires in 40 or 45 series.

Thanks in advance for any advice/assistance.

Discount tire has a link on their website where you can compare two different size tires. It gives you overall diameter circumfrance etc. Put in your origanal tire size in and they adjust the other side to find what will work for you

thats correct but am looking for a set of 16x7rims for my corolla as well but am gonna use 195x50R16 tires but you have to make sure that ur offset isnt to far off as in if you have to much positive offset you will have the tires toughing the suspension componets.

how much offset would you consider too far off? My rims have 40 offset

I barely see any aftermarket wheels with 195 wide tires on. The lowest I see is 205. 205/45/16 and 215/40/16 is what Discount Tire recommended. Just try your best and ask around to see if you can find used tires on that size. 40mm shouldn't be causing the problem so they're fine. I have 15x7 35mm wheels with 205/50/15 tires on my wagon.

Your best bet would be to go with 205/45/16 tires, that will keep your speedometer and odometer within factory specs and accuracy.

You're rubbing because the aspect ratio on that tire is too high.

I can get a good set of 195/50/16s pretty easily here...the only thing i'm wondering is if they can/will work on my wagon without anymore problems...i really don't wanna waste anymore cash, trust me...if someone could say to me, "yes I have (or know someone who has) done it before and it works", that would be awesome...

Thanks for ur help so far guys...still trying to source the 45 series btw

I think you'll be fine with that size. About 6mm in height shouldn't be enough to touch your strut tower and if you're in stock height, it'll be far from touching your fenders.

Stock Tire - 185/65R14
Overall Diameter: 23.46 in 595.88 mm
Circumference: 73.70 in 1871.9 mm
Actual Speed: 60 mph 100 km/h

195/50R16
Overall Diameter: 23.67 in 601.21 mm
Circumference: 74.36 in 1888.7 mm
Speedometer: 59.4 mph 99.1 km/h

The reason we were recommending at least 205's is because the wheels that you said you have are 7 inch wide. 195's are usually 5.5 to 7 inch wheels but most people only use them up to 6.5 wide wheels since 7 is pushing it but is for people who track their cars and want safety. They go with 205's because it can take 5.5 to 7.5 wide wheels even though I think 5.5 is too skinny for tires that wide. If you want to save more gas though, I'd get 195's over 205's. This is what the guy told me from Tire Rack.

Remember a 195 may not be the same as another. Look at the specs for each tire on tirerack and make your judgement that way, by using the manufacturers specs. Just pay attention to what size wheel it was on when they measured. I have 195's on a 7 inch rim now, and there is no issue at all. It actually suits it and I make use of more of the tire this way.

Yup....for example, a 195 wide Falken Azenis will be wider than a 195 all-season tire.

Nice! That's what I've got on my Corolla. What's the offset on them? If it's lower than 40p then you'll most likely need to get your rear fenders rolled, but that's cheap enough to do.
