94 LE fuel pump blowing fuses

I drive my 94 Corolla LE for a mile and it dies. The 15A fuse that is on the EFI circuit is blown. I can replace it and drive away, sometimes repeating the problem within another mile, sometimes driving it for a week before it happens again.
Dealer service couldn't id the problem specifically, but says the fuel pump is the only thing on that electrical circuit. Estimate of $500 to replace.
Anybody had similar problem?
thanks jim

So replace the pump before you get stuck somewhere when a new fuse wont make it go again.

Thanks for your insight, Speedy.

FYI, Toyota service dept couldn't say for sure if replacing the fuel pump would solve the problem. Nice to know they didn't want to just swap parts until they hit the right solution. Before spending $500 on a car that's worth $1000 (maybe) I thought it was worth a shot at maybe somebody knowing what's actually faulty.

You can replace the fuel pump yourself with hand tools.

Yank up the back seat bottom, then remove the large black cover with the appropriate hand tools.

Thankfully Toyota decided that you shouldnt have to drop the tank to replace the pump. Its NOT a $500 job.

.... welll maybe when the bolts on the cover are rusted to the tank!

Work smart!

$500 is high considering its only about an hour to two hours labor to swap that out, but i'm sure that the toyota pump is very expensive. ~$250. Labor varies depending on rust.
