gen 7 OBD code 27 '95 Corolla DX Wagon

Just started getting the check light, on most of the time, but will sometimes go off for a few minutes. Did the jumper thing and got a 27 code -- sub oxygen sensor signal. Now I'm wondering what this could mean -- faulty sensor, exhaust/catalyst problem, or something else. Car performance hasn't noticeably changed. What further could or should be checked before I visit the shop.

Thanks, Jim..

O2 sensor signals set off the CEL a lot. You can change over to a new one OR

just wire brush the old one. A lot of deposits form on the sensor shield and I've found that removing them will extend the life of the sensor for some time.

Just to conclude, I did in fact replace the rear sensor after trying to look for shorts, etc. The MIL is no longer giving the code which hopefully means it was in fact a sensor fault. Surprisingly easy operation to remove the old sensor after 15 years, if you don't count having to remove the front seat to get at the connector. If only the rocker panels had survived 15 years of salted roads as well :-)

Glad to see the codes gone,my rockers are a nightmare too.I'm dreading trying to replace them this summer.I like to turn a wrench body works not my thing.I'm trying to find a body shop thatll tear out and weld new ones no paint or filler work ill do that myself. What have you done with your rockers, anything?

Not much...looked at a lot of youtube videos about autobody. Seems like a doable effort. Driver side rocker panel's not bad...back of passenger side is a mess. Can't use the jack there any more and I wouldn't trust it on the other side either. Same thing for the quarter panels, major perforation on passenger side, and a smaller one on the passenger side. I'm thinking I'll get a few estimates from bodyshops and see what they can do to make it last a few more years.

Maybe we should start a new thread to see what others have done or had done and what it cost.
