Best of luck finding one. The swap is relatively easy for someone that knows what they're doing. I hope to do it too one day, when the funds allow.

I spot an automatic transmission fluid dipstick in the photo above. Any plans to do a 5-speed swap at the same time?

yes, that was my plan. originally i was considering squeezing a 2JZGTE in there, up on that idea i figured it would be far too much for something i would end up having issues with.

EDIT: actually i was looking at this guys levin that he is parting out and it has a BT 6-speed so if i could get that.. doubt i will though

bear in mind if you convert if from a corolla or levin 4a-ge 20v you'll need:

engine, gearbox, wiring loom, ecu, drives, hubs, and possibly brakes and calipers...

quite a lot of money there, and then someone has to wire it all up aswell lol.I'm not saying it wouldn't be worth it, but if you pay someone else it could end up as a big-bucks project so worth checking prices and thinking of how handy you are with sockets and spanners

Yes it would lol, however there is a detail shop in lakeport and the owner is one of our closest friends since me, my father and a few of our friends would be doing the work, and we would have all the tools needed, including a hydraulic engine lift, as well as a car lift. the issue still stands that i would need to find an engine (that levin sold this morning) and buy everything else, this would turn out to be a very costly project..

If I were you i'd keep shopping around...my 95 3door hatch is nearly fully rebuilt on a budget of 5k euros, including paint cost (although its not done yet lol)...I have:
1998 1.3 turbo engine, hks fuel control, FCD, actuator, no-name decat pipe, the LSD gearbox, TEin coilovers, TOM's wheels with 70-80% new 205/50 tyres all around, 20V bumpers, bootlid, skirts, 20V rear disc breaks, fully undersealed, ae111 levin seats all around, 3 omori guages, cd/mp3/sd card H.U. uprated speakers all around and sub in the boot, aswell as lots of replacement straight panels...and paint is approx 1K

basically my point is that if I can do all of the above including buying the car for 4k, you can do anything on a budget haha
but my main help was time...time to shop around, and see what second hand parts are both in good nick and at a decent price

You do realize that you're in California and the Levin never made it to the states, right? That makes finding one in a junkyard next to impossible. An engine importer is pretty much the only way to go.

dude...I seen ones that were free shipped for like $1600...blacktop with 6spd. And you don't pay taxes if they come from like New Jersey. You know they used to be rare and were like $2500 PLUS shipping? ahaha

you can try Venus auto in Sacramento but they don't list their prices:

I second what GT***** said about the hubs/brakes/calipers. I'm pretty sure all you need besides the engine/transmission/harness/ECU is the axles. Everything else is the same.

EDIT hahaha it censored your screen name.
