What are THESE made of....?

Aluminum.......Chrome.........Other.....?

I'd like to clean these up, but dont know how to start. I did a small portion using a round piece of scotchbrite in a drill with excellent results.
And I'm sure I will need to use some kind of polish afterward....but have NO clue which kind to use.

Am I doing damage by using the scotchbrite pads...? Please Help.

did you try spray wheel cleaners first...then just use a brush for wheels....I wouldn't go with scotch pads at first try.

they're clear coated aluminum. its best to get them stripped and refinished since if you clean them to bare metal you've just removed the protective clear coat.

Mothers and Meguiars sell a variety of wheel polishes over the counter. Either one should be more than adequate to restore those wheels.

except the damage is IN the clear coat and eaten through partially into the wheels. so the clear has to be stripped to repair the wheels (if it got that far) and they need to be recleared. they'd probably just be OK getting stripped and repainted.

try brake and parts cleaner (the green bottle, not the red bottle) and a pressure washer along with dish soap and a stiff brush.

+1 on bitters comments. It will be hard to make these wheels look good since the clear coat is damaged. Refinishing is your only hope.

And they are aluminum.
