gen 7 Switches by the hand brake and how they come out

Hey guys. Been in a chat with kiwi and discussing about switches installed by the hand brake. Here in Norway we actually have 3 installed there - seat warmer, headlight adjuster, and headlight washer switches. So nice to have.

In America if I remembered correctly, was just a coin holder and then a dummy plate.

My question is, to pop any of these out, whether it being a switch or coin holder or whatever,,, can it be popped out from the top with a small screwdriver, or... will the whole console have to be taken up to then press the clips in from underside to pop the switch/coin/whatever out the top?

If anyone has experience in any of this, please do share.

I've noticed my bulbs have blown out in mine and needing to get the switches out to replace the bulbs. Just didnt want to be breaking anything during the process, so some feedback and help would be mighty kind.

Thanks.

you need to pop them up out of the console, so need to take it out to do so.

this is very straightforward, there are 2 screws at the front on either side, and 2 either side at the rear of the centre console.screw these out and the console is loose.you need to have the handbrake up to get the console up far enought though.

hope this helps

on another note, finally I know which country got the heated seats!

The coin slot and the dummy plate can be popped of with a screwdriver. Or at least that is how I did it.

I know the can be, but unless you're ultra-careful you'll end up scratching or marking the plastic...

That's what I said to Euro in a PM . You can do it successfully by putting a cloth around the tip of the screwdriver, but it's still a bit of a risk.

I got a fog light switch for him from one of the junkyards over here a little while ago, and fortunately someone had already loosened all the screws for the centre console so I just popped it out from the bottom by pushing on it. I've been racking my memory, and I can't recall ever having to push the sides in when doing it.

much thanks. yea, i've noticed the four screws holding the console down. but i was thinking in order to really get to them i'd have to take my seats out in order to reach everything with the screwdriver well and all. guess i need to go back out and have a look again.
also i remember noticing the console is 2 pieces that butt up to each other in the middle. and i guess i had the thought since the piece with the handbrake kinda went up under the dash console coming down where the gear shift is, that i'd have to take out all that to do the job.
i'll try the four screw take outs, pull the handbrake up and see if i can pull it up some. i'll let you guys know something....

thanks for the tips!!!

you dont need to take out the seats, just slide the seat to the furthest position at each end to get at the screws
ie as far back as possible to easily get at the front 2 screws, and vice-versa

ya thanks for the tips.
i went out earlier and moved the seats back and undid the screws. thing is in my euro model theres only 2 screws in the top part of it, but none in the back. different setup i suppose.

i noticed my headlight adjuster switch was slightly sticking on in a corner, so i just took a grip on it and pulled up and it popped out pretty easily.
from there i stuck my finger in the hole where that came out, and popped up the seat warmer switch from underneath.
i then stuck my finger in the hand brake open area and popped up the headlight washer switch.

all popped out easily and prob could have pulled them all up from the top, its not held in that tight.

all the bulbs were blown so i'll be replacing them with some aftermarket bulbs.. not paying $8 a bulb from the stealership.

get you some bulbs for your switches from here:

http://autolumination.com/74.htm

and scroll halfway down the page to this: "Neo - Wedge LED Instrument Panel Bulbs Type A, B & C
(Note to choose the correct bulb, measure the diameter of the base) 79609-S5A-003"

much cheaper and prob just as good.

thanks for the help guys!!

please note I live in Ireland so also have a euro model lol.
I take it with the 2 screws, you have the arm-rest centre console then, yes?
good to hear it worked out alright anyway.I'm currently thinking of getting some blue bulbs for the interior but then again I think their day is over haha
