My Corolla just got rear ended......Pics On Page 2 - Now Repaired, Pics On Page 4
I can't believe it, but some asshole wasn't watching where they were going in the rain and skidded into the car behind me, which in turn slammed into the rear of my Corolla when I was stopped at a set of traffic lights.
The part that really pisses me off is that it happened literally 2-minutes after I picked my car up from getting the front and rear bumper lips painted . The car behind me was actually my father's, as he picked me up and took me to the painters to go and collect my car. His car is a bit damaged too (not as bad as mine though) so we're both on the phone to the insurance company as I type this.
The driver wasn't looking where they were going at all. I swear I almost punched him in the face out of pure rage. Thankfully he's fully insured, so all damages will be paid for. The only thing I'm worried about is that his insurance company will decide to write my car off....Then I'll be extremely pissed because I've recently put a 60,000km motor in and spent a lot of money in other areas.
The crash caused the trunk compartment to be pushed right in, which bent the taillights and cracked the bumper and part of my trunk garnish . I still can't believe this has even happened. I'll post pics when it stops raining (which will most likely be tomorrow).
I'll keep you all updated.

Damn man this sucks to hear, you have one clean corolla. Keep us posted on what happens.
Thanks man. I'm going to try my absolute best to make sure the car doesn't get classed as being "written off". Even if that means buying it back off the insurance company. I went to visit my local panelbeater (who was just down the road from where the incident happened, ironically, right next to the painters) and he said they'll sort something out for me.
I had my car booked in go get my full 2.25" straight through exhaust and muffler put on tomorrow, so I've just had to ring and cancel that . The trunk is currently held down by a strecthy tie and I've got a tarp over it so no water can get in there.

Wow! That's totally messed up, Scott. Figures it would be right after having the bumpers done. The ocean is pretty deep off New Zealand, more than deep enough to hide the body of the M.F. who hit you.

Thanks guys. All I can do now is wait. I was on the phone to the insurance company and they said neither me or my dad will have to pay anything at all. I seriously could have killed the guy who ran into us. He couldn't seem to understand why we were so angry as to him it's "just a car"

yea well youre not the only one!
today as im yeilding to traffic to make a right turn
and guy who seems to not be paying attention either slams right into the back of me
the damages werent that bad but my reay bump is now bent
and I just got a wheel alignment that has now gone to shit
oh also it was a nice sunny dry day out in florida
Sorry to hear about you getting hit. I had a similar thing happen with my old 88 Corolla GTS AE92. The insurance adjuster didn't total it although it had $3500 damage. He could tell the rest of the car was in excellent condition & that I took good care of it. So make sure that you fight to get it repaired, & repaired correctly.

Crazy!! Sorry to hear that bro. I hope the 'Corolla curse' isn't starting to spread again. All the best with the repairs.

Thanks dude. I'll be making sure that it gets repaired properly for sure. The insurance company said that if the cost of repairs comes to more than what the market value for my car is, then they'll write it off. But I can always go and get my own quotes before any of that happens. My local panel beater said he should be able to fix up the damage to the trunk compartment for around $600, so that'll be a lot cheaper than going through an 'authorised' repairer recommended by the insurance company.

Sorry to hear about you getting hit, i hope you get car back on the road asap scott.....
Thanks buddy. I've got my fingers firmly crossed at this stage. I'm waiting for the guy who caused the damage to lodge a claim with the insurance company (which is coincidentally the same insurance company that my father and I are with). The insurance company can't do anything to my car until he does so. If he doesn't contact them and make a claim by tomorrow afternoon, then I'm going to call him and threaten to get my lawyer involved. The sooner it's fixed the better, mainly because the damage is heart-breaking to look at. It's 9:23pm on Thursday here at the moment, but if it's stopped raining tomorrow morning I'll whip outside and take some pics.

That really sucks dude, your corolla was awesome. Hopefully it'll all work out for you. My buddy's wife's Buick Reatta got hit in the front, and the insurance totalled it, but they got to buy it back from the insurance dirt cheap. They parked the Reatta and took the rest of the money and bought another car. Maybe if the same happens to you, you can buy it back dirt cheap, and use the rest of the money to fix it wherever you want. (ie: find places cheap or do what you can yourself). Who knows, you could even have some parts money left over after it's all fixed.
Thanks for all the support everyone. I called the insurance company again this morning and the driver at fault has finally put a claim in, so now I just have to wait until I hear from the insurance company again. They said that if the car got written off due to the cost of fixing it, then the auction company may be able to work something out with me so that I can buy it back (or I may have to end up bidding on it against other people) - But that's the worst case scenario though. I'm sure the repair bill for the damage won't equate to the point where it's considered to be a write-off. I don't see why there should be any limit really since none of this was my fault, but I suppose I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
In the meantime, here are some pics of the carnage. It was really hard to take photos in my garage on such a rainy day with nothing but fluorescent lighting and my camera's flash, but I did my best. It's difficult to see the extent of the damage judging by the pics, but you can definitely see how far it has been pushed in:
Pics of the gaps created by the crash:
7.5cm (3-inches) from where the bumper mounting holes are to where the mounting holes on the chassis are, and the license plate is pushed in substantially
8.5cm (3.3-inch) crack on the left side of the bumper:
The intrusion caused from the crash:
The bent taillights (same on both sides):
Broken garnish between on trunk between taillights:
On a happier note however, the car does look better with the lips of the bumpers painted Here's some photos from the front:
