The lowest model (Not sure about the DX though) did not have a lower drivers footwell vent. So I just added one.
2 parts needed. The plastic vent tube and the vent as pictured.
1: Remove the side trim piece. 1 plastic screw by the firewall, the rest are just clips that pull off.
2: Remove the lower dash trim. 4 10mm bolts. One on each lower corner, and 2 that are behind the plastic covers towards the top. Remove the Hood Latch release cable.
3: Unscrew the phillipshead screw on the front left side of the vent tube. Then just pull the tube out.
4: Put on the vent tube with the opening the same way you took the other one off.
5: Poke out the plastic cover in the lower dash piece.
6: Push in the vent.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
I use this feature in my Corolla all the time. It's handy when you don't want air blowing in your face (since even when the two side vents are closed, the middle vents still let air in), so I usually just push the button so that it goes down to my feet. I always wear pants when I drive, so I don't really feel my "who-ha" getting cold

Interestingly enough, I have a '94 DX Wagon and mine doesn't have the vent. I think this is odd considering that I've read that the DX's had most of the 'luxury' options, especially the DX Wagons.
May have been an option on the DX. But yeah, the wagon's usually came with a lot.
And I realized last night I don;t think there are floor (under seat) vents either, lol. Ugh.....I need to check. If thats the case, I got to do that next,

Quick question. Where did you source the parts from?? I checked my local salvage yard and none of the 5 corolla's had any of the two parts needed. I've been wanting to do this mod for a little while now. Do you think toyota would have this in stock at the parts dept??? Thank you for the easy write up.
There is not a chance they'd have it "in stock" at the dealer, but they can order it, normally next day. Since these are not common item's, they'd likely be coming out of the Cali warehouse and may take a week.

My DX doesn't have the crotch cooler either, and I was under the impression that the previous owner had checked all the available options for that model except ABS and a sunroof. Was this an LE-only thing perhaps? All the rear vents are under the front seats and pretty easy to get to, the seat brackets come out with either a 12 or a 14mm socket.
What part number is that vent and how much does the book list it for? Right now Jez has a black exterior, silver-and-black leather seat covers, untinted windows, and no working AC...and summer's probably going to be up over 100 degrees again. That mod is looking awfully good. *L*
I was at the junkyard today and had a look in a base model wagon. Sure enough, it had the same duct going under the dash, and it even had the flared part which directs the airflow to the crotch vent, except it was all filled in with plastic. All you'd have to do is drill or cut that small piece of plastic out, get a vent (got some available here if you need one) and you'll be good to go. No need to source the duct elsewhere as you'll already have one that does the exact same job. Remove the lower part of your dash on your driver's side and you'll see what I mean

i dont mean to resurrect an old thread but here is the duct work that kiwi is talking about. i just did the swap today and this is what came out of it.
i suppose you could cut that piece out and put some foam around it and it be fine but to me it looks like that part doesnt extend out enough to reach the vent... but i didnt compare them side by side so i dont know. hope this helps someone...
