my car is a corolla 1994
does anybody know the problem and how i can fix it?
The cabin is just another name for the interior of the car. There is a fusebox on the driver's side in the footwell area (to the left of the pedals). Just pop the cover off and you'll see the fuses.
The back of the fuse box cover will have a diagram of which fuses do what. The fuses that you should check in your situation are labelled 'GAUGE' (red 10 amp) and 'TAIL' (blue 15 amp) on the back of the fuse box cover. It would pay to check all of the fuses really, but these two are the most important as they'll more than likely relate to your problem.
In order to remove the fuse, get a long-nose pair of pliers, gently grip the fuse and pull it straight out. You'll easily be able to tell if the fuse is blown because the piece of metal inside will have a break in it, and you may see slight burns marks on the fuse housing. Be sure to only take one fuse out at a time so that you know where each one goes when you put it back in.
If the diagram on the back of your fuse cover is missing or worn off, I'll scan you the diagram from my Corolla owners manual.

Here's a copy of the fusebox diagram inside the cabin, just in case you need it. The picture on the left is of the fusebox on the driver's side, ignore the picture on the right:

Hmm, did you plug the three plugs back in the rear of the centre console when you put it back on after the stereo install? There should be three in a row vertically (one for the clock, one for the hazard lights and one for the rear-screen demister). Perhaps a couple of those wires operate other things on the same circuit. It's a long shot, but worth checking. Otherwise, check the fuses in the engine bay, inside the black box just behind the battery.

you said this happened after you changed the radio...?
did you tap into a wire behind the dash for the radio illumintion-wire if that applies..?
actually what is said above, you hardly took out the clocks by any chance and didnt plug in on of the plugs properly?
@scott: the hazards, if not plugged in will stop the indicators working, including the stalks, ane the demister only stops that.not sure about the auto lights if they'd stop anything else from working.....

Without it, the illumination circuit doesn't complete.
Also make sure the illumination wire is connected to where it should be on the radio harness.

Before you spend the money, Check your wiring. I just installed a head unit in my corolla a few months ago. After I did, it worked, but the instrument backlights didn't come on. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong, but it was my wiring. I wired the two orange wires together (dimmer and dimmer ground). I didn't know any better, but they should have been left alone. Finally after disconnecting them and taping them off, the lights worked again. (of course, I did have to replace a fuse and the dimmer rheostat as well, but I think I blew them on accident from trying to figure out what the problem was.) Check your wiring between the stereo harness and the car adapter harness. If you wired up the orange wires, undo them, and tape them off. See if that works.
