I found my toyota owners manual and found abit of info which i thought may be useful....

It's interesting how they never have 'AE100' (5A-FE) in there.

Just checked my manual, and the engine code diagram is slightly different. Must differ from country to country:

and you got engine model.... even tho it states engine in basic code...

Yeah, I think they added the 'Engine code' box because there are two options for AE101 under the 'Basic code' box (4A-F and 4A-FE). I've never come across a 4-speed manual transmission as listed under the 'Transmission type' either. I noticed that on the very back of my manual it says "E-1", whereas yours says "E-3". I bought mine from a junkyard for a few dollars (hence why it's so dirty, lol). There's a mint one online for $5 that I'm looking at buying. Who knows, it might be different as well

i have 2 owners manuals, and everytime I find one in a scrapyard (or "junkyard" to some) I ask if I can have it for free, hence having 2 and stil counting


and I also have yet to see a 4-speed manual yet...

i have seen one 4 speed manual abroad... it was in pakistan afew years ago...

We only got sedans and wagons here in North America, so I think it it's pretty self-explanatory.

But then again, it's Corolla owners we're talking about.....
