gen 7 corolla '97 tail lights

my tail lights are staying on even when i turned the car off. Can anybody give me a clue?

It's most likely the brake light switch, which is located on a bracket at the top of the brake pedal. The switch activates the brake lights when the pedal is depressed, and turns them off when it's not. Give it a press to make sure that it's not stuck. Then check that the rubber pedal stopper on the switch isn't missing or deteriorated. If it is, then there are various ways that you can fix it using household items (such as a bit of plastic and duct tape), but it's best to replace it with a genuine OEM part.

If the rubber pedal stopper is fine, check the clearances. The clearance between the brake pedal and the brake light switch should be 0.02 to 0.09 inches, and the clearance between the brake pedal and the firewall should be 5.46 to 5.85 inches (LHD models only).
