ideal offset for ae101

hi everyone, i need to get tires for my car, so i figured id purchase wheels too,

im looking for a 15 or 16, with pretty aggressive fitment, to fit a megan spring drop.

any suggestions? i need to buy quite soon, and im not too knowledgeable on wheel fitment.

How low is the Megan spring? I have 15x7 35mm offset with 205/50/15 and I had to roll my fenders with a 1.5 drop on the back. If you don't wanna deal with that then get 195 width tires with an offset in the 40's...somewhere under 45mm or else your sidewall is gonna rub on the strut tower.

i was looking at some 7.5" -10s i know an 8" and 0 will likely be sticking out...

if i recall, the megan drop is 2.0 all around, im willing to use a taller, thinner tire on a wide wheel to fit it better

im also looking at 16x8 -10s, im unsure if that would work well, i dont want to run too much camber.

There are some guys running pretty crazy widths/offsets on AE10x Corolla's on wrongfitmentcrew.com. Tire stretch and negative camber is a must. I still rub the fender on my tC with a 215/35-18 on an 8.5 at et20R x -2.3 and 25F x -1.5.

Ideal offset to me would be one that maximizes tire life and drivability and camber within stock specs.

16x7.5/8 +30 to +35 offset would already put you about flush with no camber.

But since you're running that extreme of a fitment, you'll definitely have to roll your fenders front and rear and possibly have to pull the fender out slightly to accomodate a 215 tire if you're running an 8" wide wheel.

Just some things to put into perspective before diving in.

i dont mind rolling and pulling the fenders, the body is in good shape, but i dont mind a little roughness here and there, as it isnt perfect, with 21x k miles...

im looking at these 15x8 +20et that some guy is parting off his miata locally... with a roll and aggressive pull, can i get good fitment with these?

not really thinking about keeping them green, but might consider it :p

i think mine are +35 and i had to roll the rear fenders because the touched on compression. wife's car has 15" scion XB and under a heavy load(eg brother in the rear seat) it scrapes. so i think i'll have to roll her's too now. but she's not dropped. just standard height. if you don't want to roll +38/40 is around where you want to be. but a louisville will take care of the lip.

Nice wheels. You'll need to run 215s at least to get enough rubber on those.

215/50/15 will not affect your speedometer accuracy but getting them to fit is a different story.

You'll have to be pretty determined to get those to fit without rubbing.

With the right ride height, the end result will be hellaflush.

now if i went with a 15 or 16 by 7 with a 40 offset, would that work well?

those seem to be the most common, im looking for good fitment, but flush isnt priority, i drive this car every day, and im thinking id prefer something a little more mild.

i still dont mind pulling or rolling fenders, as long as im not rubbing all day on the freeway :p

You can still run slammed and not rub provided that you're springs are stiff enough to prevent the suspension from compressing when hitting bumps. Only thing you'll have to worry about is the effect on your tire life with extreme camber required to tuck the wheels under the fenders.

15s will give you more ride comfort, and tires will be cheaper.
16s will look nicer, but ride firmer.

Those specs are fine. +40 and 7" wide is a fairly conservative fitment.

+40 will be fine. Anything around the 36-38 mark will require fender rolling in the rear. I've got 17's on mine with a -37 offset and the wheels basically sit flush with the fenders. I had to get the rears rolled after I lowered it to stop it rubbing every time I went over a speed-bump or down a large driveway. As for the wheel size, I'd suggest going with the 16's

my thread: pics on page 2 or 3 i cant remember

Anyone on here have low offsets???

15x8 +0 195/45

if you plan on driving a lot i personally wouldnt go past the 8 +0 on the front and for the rear i could easily see a 9 +0 with a 205 on it.. all depends on how crazy you want to go

if you want to leave factory camber you could easily get away with an 8 +12-15 with a 195 and do a quality roll

I know I'm very late on this, but this thread has been so informative and helpful.

I had a question. Would one be able to fit a 15x6.5-7 with a 215/50/15 et 40ish with just fender rolling?

or would you need to pull the fenders and go the extra mile?

the front guards on these things are huge cavernous things, to get my 9's at 15p on the front im only running 2.5 degrees of camber.

camber does not kill tyres toe is what eats tyres, if your toe is set correctly you shouldn't have to worry about camber wear as you are never going to get enough to hurt your tyres.

I would roll the lips up on the rear guards and definitely look around 35ish if you are looking for a straight forward fit. Since you are only looking at drop springs you will wanna look into camber bolts if you want to adjust your camber anyway. etc etc...
