Hoping to help others

I have a 1993 toyota corolla I had problems with. We called it a summa time car. Some times it would start some times it wouldnt. We started replacing spark plugs,Distributor, rotor ,ignition switch, throttle bodie and thing we could think of. The engine would never kill but would run till you turned it off then it wouldnt turn over anymore. You might go back a day later and it would start right up and run great. I got disgusted couldnt find the problem so I put another engine in it. The engine cranked right up and purred. I stopped the car after running it for about 6 minuetes and guess what it would not start again. Same thing. So I ordered another computer. Put the computer in crank crank crank nothing. I started fumbling with wires trying to figure the problem. Low and behold I was tapping on the wires on this large gray plug in that is located in front of the compuer and bingo the car started right up. I have no idea what this plug in runs but sure does have something to do with the starting of the car. It looks like the vibration from the car makes this plug in get a bad connection. I unplugged the plug in and sprayed it with contact cleaner pluged it back in and fixed it so there is no way it can come loose. And the car starts all the time now. The plug in im sure is part of the wiring harness. There is a black plug in and a gray plug in and my problem was in the gray plug in. So if your having similar problems check there before sinking all kind of money into it. If I had not took all that apart to get to the computer I would of never known where the problem was because its behind all the center console.

Poor connections at connectors is a common problem on aging cars as well as corroded connections under the hood. Pulling connectors and plugging them back in is a good start for any intermittent electrical problem.

Sorry it took so much money and effort to make your car reliable, but glad you found it.
