Fuel tank removal

Ignore this post...I solved the problem...tenaya

Am removing 1994 Corolla DX fuel tank for repair or replacement. Did all disconnects specified in my Haynes manual. Looking good to go and was preparing to remove straps and lower tank with floor jack...when I discovered a brake line bracket bolted to the driver-side front corner of the tank flange. This item was not mentioned in the manual.

Problem: The head of the bolt securing the bracket is on top of the tank flange and inaccessible with any wrench that I have. The bolt threads into a nut welded to the bottom of the flange so no help there.

Anyone have a successful solution to this problem?

Thanks,

Tenaya

Hopefully you used a zip tie to put it back together so that peaky bolt wont be a pain if you might have to drop the tank again.

Thanks, SP,

It turns out, as is far too often the case, that what I needed to do was to step back and then return to the problem without assumptions and with new eyes.

What I assumed were brake lines were in fact fuel lines that I had neglected to disconnect, one fuel return, the other a vapor line. The bracket is designed to come out attached to the tank once these are disconnected. There was no graphic representation of this bracket in the manual so I was totally confused by it.

All is well, the tank is out and will be repaired in the next day or two.

Thanks again...

Tenaya
