*VIDEO* 2-inch Exhaust & Dynomax Muffler Installed - NOW WITH 2 RESONATORS!
LATEST EDIT: (29th June) This is my third and final video of the exhaust system. I got an 18" resonator welded in place of the 10" resonator today. Sounds just how I want it now:
EDIT: I have now installed another resonator and the raspy sound has definitely decreased. See further down the page for video #2.
I finally got around to getting my straight through exhaust installed today. The system comprises of 2" exhaust piping, a Dynomax high-flow muffler and a universal chrome muffler tip.
I could notice an increase in performance as soon as I drove it. It seems more responsive and pulls more through the power-band. I'm running one resonator, no catalytic converter, headers & a front pipe and it seems nice and quiet when at idle and low RPMs. It's only when I open the throttle right up that it gets noisy. I'm going to try it out for a week to see if I like the loudness at full throttle, but if not then I'll install another resonator.
I decided to make a video to show what it sounds like. In the first part of the video, I revved it very gently so you can hear what it sounds like when driving it 'normally' compared to what it sounds like when the throttle is right open. It's got quite a raspy tone to it. The small puffs of black smoke you can see are from the muffler since it's brand new. Apparently it burns some of the glass packing on the inside and becomes even quieter after a bit of driving.
Without further ado, here's the video. Comments very welcome:
I've decided that I'm going to put another resonator in. I really like the sound on acceleration, but not too keen on the raspy sound during deceleration. Admittedly, the camera's crappy microphone enhances it a bit and the sound will dull down once the muffler breaks itself in more, but a 16-20" resonator should take care of any higher frequencies. Will post another vid when it's done, but in the meantime let me know what you think

Thanks for the comment. I'll be sure to get some close-up pics of it tomorrow
I called the exhaust shop earlier and they said that one of the reasons there is such a noticeable raspy tone is because it has no catalytic converter. I'm going to see them tomorrow morning to see which size resonators they've got, so will hopefully be able to get one installed. The one I've got on there at the moment is 12-inches long if I remember correctly, so I might go for a 24" one if I can. It's really trial and error until I get the exhaust tone I'm after, but I'll get there eventually, regardless of how much I have to spend in the process

got any ideas?
I'd suggest getting a 2" exhaust with a baffled muffler (such as Dynomax, Magnaflow etc) and chuck at least two resonators in. You should get a nice mellow tone at lower RPMs, but it should be noticeably louder in the upper rev range. That's what I'm aiming for when I install the second resonator so I'll let you know how I get on

i straightpiped the mid muffler and put a sonic turbo on the back, it sounds really good, not really loud but it sounds pretty crisp. Ill take a video in a min here.
I'm sure it feels fast lol.. without a cat, I bet you lost low end torque but gained hp up top. I'd go with a cat to make it less raspy like you're going to do. Personally I would like a deeper bass sound.
Not bad.... but yeah, definitely a bit too much "ricer rasp" once you let off the throttle.
The muffler itself looks stock which is nice and stealthy. Need some more closeup pics of that.
Yeah it looks nice and stock, which I was hoping would be a lot quieter than it is. I researched resonators for a couple of hours last nice and am now convinced that a long resonator should get rid of that ricer rasp. I want something that is just loud enough to hear, but not completely quiet like stock. I'll take some shots of the muffler as soon as the sun comes up

edit: nevermind, the camera isnt here :/
and my phone camera is terrible
Sounds good. Looking forward to seeing your vid. The more input the better. It's very much trial and error at this stage.

I definitely wouldn't be going back to a cat again, especially considering the price of them, lol. If it was a legal requirement I would, but it's much easier and more practical to just replace it with one hell of a reasonator. I could go crazy and chuck a 34" resonator in, but I'm worried that might make it too quiet, so will probably just settle for a 22". The resonator just takes out the higher frequencies but leaves the lower frequencies, so I should still get a nice deep tone

sounds good kiwi but as you say the raspy note after you take your foot off the gas is not my kind of tone eather i hope adding the extra resonator or cat works because i know you want the stealth look, but with my growler cylindercal muffler gaves me a deep tone right trought the powerband and sounds really aggressive, ill make a video also to let you hear what i mean, but other than that it sounds great till you take your foot of the gas.
nearly (note only nearly) as good as my ae111 levin exhausted corolla...jasma approved too
and home-made decat
Lol, too late now, just got home from getting another resonator put on. It's still a little raspy, but no where near as 'tinny' as it was before. I'll have another vid up shortly

Cheers man. Yeah the extra resonator has certainly made a difference. They only had a 10" resonator there so I just went with that. I may even chuck one more in one day, but for the time being I'm happy . Looking forward to seeing your vid. I'll post another one that I just took soon.

Here's the new video with the second resonator put in. The crackling you can hear in some parts is due to the camera's microphone trying to process something so loud, lol. I'm glad the raspy sound has decreased. Looking forward to hearing what you guys reckon
