Tachometer Install

I just bought a Sunpro mini tach for my 94 corolla, and I'm planning on installing it this weekend. The only problem is I don't see any grommets in the firewall I can run the wires through. Where can I run those wires? is there an ok place to drill, run and plug?

There is a rubber bung in the firewall that you can use on your driver's side. It's located directly underneath the air filter piping that leads to the throttle body. It has ribbed edges on it. The wires will come out under the dash, right by your accelerator pedal. I used it to put my amp power cable through. Very handy. Just drill, poke or cut a small hole in the bung and you'll be good to go

Here's some photos:

EDIT: Here's another photo:

Is there any possible way to re-route the wires from there to up behind the instrument panel?

Yeah it'd be easy to re-route the wiring so that it goes behind the instrument panel. The easiest way would be to remove the instrument cluster, tape a straight piece of metal (such as from a coat hanger) to the wires and poke it up through the dash until you see it coming through an opening. There are quite a few gaps so you're bound to find at least one to go through.

^^with doing that it helps if you take out the section of the dash that houses the radio, makes it so much easier IMO.

Finished the install. Ground went straight to negative battery terminal (got lazy after a few hours of working in the heat). Positive (red wire) went to positive terminal on battery. White (illumination feed for tach backlight) was spliced into green wire (instrument cluster illumination feed) from dimmer rheostat. Green (tach signal) is back-fed from plug on negative wire for the ignition coil. Works great. Mounted the tach on the top steering column cover at an angle so it slightly blocks the "cool" part of the temp gauge, but none of the speedometer.

Also: thanks to kiwi-corolla for the advice on running the wires!

I installed a sunpro mini tach using the radio's wires to power the tach and the diagnosis plug under the hood to get the tach signal

ground- use the brown radio wire
tach light- green radio wire
tach power- blue with yellow stripe wired

tach signal- IG(-) slot in the diagnosis plug under the hood

for pics go on my cardomain http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3212190

I'm looking to install one of these. Anyone know if they make pillar pods for the Corolla? I want a tach, but don't know where to mount it. I want it to look good and not block anything.
